Holiday shopping is an obsession. And this season’s Bowery Babes Holiday Event was held at Bloomingdale’s in Soho. Bowery Babes is a club of hip moms in the downtown area and their holiday event was a toy drive benefiting Baby Buggy. We have worked with Baby Buggy in the past – they are a Robin Hood-esque organization that takes donations from rich NYC families (used cribs, strollers, high chairs, etc) and donates them to families in need. Kids were able to run around the entire fifth floor and only stopped to snag a Christmas cookie and wash it down with Y Water.

The ADC is the premier organization for integrated media and a creative collective in NYC. Their mission is to Connect, Provoke, and Elevate world changing ideas. When I suggested a product donation to their holiday party, they jumped at the chance as Y Water is totally up their alley. Y Water as donated as a non-alcoholic option from the bar and also as a fun bar mixer. They built in a gorgeous white bar that was lit from within, ensuring that one arm of the bar was meant to only be a Y Water workshop. People couldn’t help but play with the bottles as they were waiting for drinks and everyone fell in the love with the product.

The surrounding space had works on display from digital artists Andrio Abero, Paul Pope, Chris Rubino, and Paula Scher. The event was a great success and it’s always great to introduce Y Water to such a creative group of people.

Y Water is as ready for the holiday party season as anyone. Last week, Y Water sponsored the Ballet Hispanico’s Annual Holiday Benefit at The Gates in New York City. Now, don’t try this at home, but Y Water was a huge hit as a cocktail mixer…especially with the ballerinas. One girl said aloud, “Y Water and vodka makes me feel pretty!” Now there’s a sound bite that captures the holiday spirit if we’ve ever heard one. The event featured a silent auction including: a Gossip Girl VIP set tour, two front row seats to Brian Reyes’ Fall 2010 runway show, tickets to Carmen at the Metropolitan Opera, and signed New York Giants memorabilia. When Y Water goes out…we go all out. Ask any of the ballerinas.

Y Water is in full holiday cheer mode. As we wind down our first year in business and are busy making plans for the next, we wanted to splash a bit of Y Water cheer with organizations in need during this festive, heartfelt time. We have recently made a donation to the following charities and hope you will consider doing something special for kids in need this season as well:

Boys Town (http://www.boystown.org/Pages/default3.aspx)

City Harvest (http://www.cityharvest.org/)

Food Bank (http://www.foodbanknyc.org/)

Martha Stewart Living Center at Mount Sinai (http://bit.ly/1tvv6H)

Check out this sweet note (in you can make out the chicken scratch) from one of the grateful kids that works at the Y Water Cafe for Junior Achievement in Florida. It’s like letter to Santa Claus...only better.

When Y Water set out to support the NYC LAB School, it was for a host of great reasons. First and foremost to get our nutritious, low-calorie beverage into the hands of smart, active kids. Secondarily to participate in the conversation of healthy choices that parents and teachers can steer the kids into. When we began the dialogue with Megan Adams, the Middle School Principle (who we met at an event earlier in the summer), we never quite bargained for the additional benefits of the association. Let me explain. In these harsh economic times, the New York City Public Schools budgets were being cut and Megan was concerned that the first-ever Co-Ed Flag Football Team would lose its funding. As the tale goes, that’s exactly what happened. Knowing this, Y Water was happy to lend the additional support to the kids with T-shirts and product, helping to make the Flag Football Team a reality. We’d like to call it the Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa Miracle, it just happened to come a little early. Now, we’re not trying to say that this is like A Christmas Carol and the School Chancellor is like Scrooge or anything, but budget cuts have been happening across the country. Our story, has a happy ending before the goose gets cooked.

Not a dry eye in the house.

Back to the unexpected joy of our association with the NYC LAB School. Well, words cannot describe what it felt like to open this huge orange envelope where lo and behold, these amazing hand-made holiday/thank you cards came pouring out from the team. Well, we just were bowled over. ‘Tis the season for companies, large or small, to take a moment and consider what they can do to lend an extra hand to give kids the tools they need to thrive. Together we can make a difference.

Correction...you guys rock!

We at Y Water are always researching organizations that are doing important work for kids both nutritionally and otherwise. Today, we were struck by this piece of information from the Huffington Post that we wanted to share with you. We often hear about U.S. teachers being paid poorly for all the work they do to educate children. But did you know that 63 percent of teachers report buying food for the classroom each month with their own money? That’s just one statistic from a report put out by Share Our Strength, which surveyed teachers across the country about hunger in America’s classrooms. Share Our Strength also interviewed two teachers in New York City about their personal experiences with students who have come to depend on them for enough food to get them through the day.
Thought you might want to see what the website Diets In Review thought of Y Water.

Y Water is an organic drink that comes in four varieties. Y Water is low calorie and rich in nutrients that help children’s growth. Y Water comes in the varieties of brain water, muscle water, immune water and bone water, with each of these different flavors attributing something to that particular area of health mentioned in the title.

Y Water also comes in the shape of what’s called y knots. This allows the bottles to connect together so that you can use the empty bottles to build different things. Because Y Water is a children’s product, placing the water into containers that turn into toys seems like a great way to get maximum use from it.
